Taiwan Flour Mills Association (TFMA) was established in August 1952 starting with 14 flour mills in members. Because of the growing of the Taiwan milling industry, the number of members increased to 38 flour mills in 1992. After that, flour business became competitive, and some flour mills expand scale, and some discontinued flour milling. Currently there are 21 flour mills in operation and 26 flour mills acting as members of TFMA.

Each member have one to three representatives in TFMA, for electing Chairmen, managing directors and managing auditors for operating the TFMA.

TFMA has two committees including, Programs and Activities Development committee and Technical Committee, the members of these two committees are made up of the representatives from all flour mills and milling technology experts. All programs and activities undertaken will be discussed and approved by members of the committee before implementing. The staff of the association includes a secretary general and three sections in charge of administration, business operation and finanize respectively.

The major business of TFMA is to purchase wheat with open tenders for all flour mills and to develop technical programs to assist flour mills to upgrade their milling technology to improve their milling performance in their flour mills.

The production of local wheat in Taiwan is not significant. Taiwan flour mills majorly use DNS, HRW, SW, APH, AH, ASW and CWRS for milling flour for baking industry, noodle industry and other wheat food manufactures. TFMA always purchase premium wheat from the world wheat exporting countries for producing flour in Taiwan.

The total milling capacity of flour mills in Taiwan is about two millions MT per year and flour mills just milling 1.3 million MT of wheat currently. Taiwan flour mills still have a lot of room for producing more flour. TFMA is helping Taiwan flour mills to export high quality flour to other countries.
